Hey! I'm a very passionate musician who loves to share the gift of music with others. I've had the opportunity to play with many orchestras as well as live bands. I attended Liberty University in 2006 where originally I was going to major in Music education but decided to go down the technology route. Today I'm actively playing and enjoy teaching as this is something that allows me to express myself. While taking lessons with me, you'll learn the fundamentals of music theory, read music as well as learn to listen and play along.
My teaching experiences began in college where I'd work with fellow students in regards to perfecting their violin skills. After graduating college I worked a little bit with a middle school student. I encourage my students to practice at least 20 mins a day vs. playing for an hour and coming into practice. I believe you don't truly grasp the technique by doing that but this is dependent on the students. I encourage everyone who has a desire to play to try because it not going to hurt to try. I'm looking forward to working with everyone.
For beginning students doesn't matter the age, I typically start them off with All for Strings. Once the students has completed the book and understood the basic handling of a violin as well as reading notes, I'll introduce repertoire. I normally assist wth some school music or if there was something that particularly interested him/her, I'll assist. At times, I like to challenge my student to do some ear training. This is where I'd play something and they would try to play it back. This also helps with improvisation.
I love seeing students really getting into their lessons. The excitement and seeing the light bulb go off when they finally get it and are able to put all parts together. I wouldn't treat my students all the same as I know that some students learn at their own pace. At the initial lesson, we will work on goals and identifying the level that the student is at. From there, we would be able to build a lesson and find different music that interests the students. At the end of the lesson the goal is that the student finds an outlet for his/her creativity.
