I'm a passionate and motivated instructor who loves working with students of all ages and levels from pre-schoolers to advanced. I pursued MA in Piano Pedagogy from San Diego State University and MM in Piano Performance from Philippine Women's University. I graduated from Philippine Women's University the Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Performance & Music Education. I have had the opportunity to teach Piano for Non-Music Majors in San Diego State University. I have had the opportunity to be the second pianist in a lecture-recital of a graduating MA student in Piano Performance performing and lecturing the piano duo works of a South American composer in San Diego State University.. I also have had the opportunity to be the piano accompanist to concertos by Mozart and Ravel in a concert in the Tijuana Performing Arts Center.
My teaching experience dates back to my college days teaching private lessons both in my home studio and students' homes, and have been consistently teaching students in their homes for the last 13 years. Encouraging younger students to have a consistent schedule for a regular practice will help the students progress and gain a passion for the instrument. Combining classical and modern music help students enjoy the piano and motivate them to practice and continue to learn. My students are encouraged to enter competitions and recitals, as well as work on composing their own original material, so they can feel good about their accomplishments and stay motivated to learn. I always look to bring new students of all ages.
For children beginners, I usually start with either Faber & Faber Piano Adventure or Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. When the students have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will start introducing solo repertoire to get them ready for their first recital performance. For adult students, I guide my instruction accordingly after finding out what the student is interested in to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level.
Teaching piano from pre-school to advanced levels is very rewarding. It is important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I set realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments encourages students to progress and makes students eager to learn more. I successfully tailor my instruction based on their wants, needs, and what inspires them.
