I am a young, but passionate, aspiring trumpet player. I am currently attending The University of North Carolina at Charlotte and am in search of exciting new teaching opportunities with bright young students! I mainly reside in the classical music genre and, therefore that is the area in which I will mainly teach. However, I have a small amount of jazz training that I would be more than happy to share as well! I have toured the eastern United States with the Music City Drum and Bugle Corps ensemble and will look to continue to travel in the future as an upcoming professional trumpet player.
I have taught several of my peers and young students alike in the art of trumpet playing! My main goal in a lesson is to build the fundamentals and branch out from that basic understanding of the instrument. In any form of music, especially classical, a musician must have a firm understanding of the basics in order to excel in their musical future. My teaching on the trumpet also include a simple bit of learning on the piano as it is a fantastic way to visualize exactly what music is trying to do at any given moment in a selection. My lessons are all about having fun and getting better all at the same time!
As stated in my experience explanation I use the piano as a teaching tool. however, I do not require that students know how to play the piano at all as I will only be using it for extremely simple demonstrations. I strongly believe in the vocal chords being directly related to the training of a musicians ear and how they understand playing their instrument and, therefore I teach a small bit of basic singing skills. Once a small warm-up session is done with the student I like to look at a selection of music that they may playing in an upcoming school concert or recital and I will then build the fundamentals of trumpet playing and an understanding of music through that specific piece or specific pieces.
I am a young aspiring student just like those that I teach and, therefore I enjoy having fun and keeping the student engaged as I understand how hard it is to focus when beginning to play an instrument like the trumpet which may seems mundane at first. My main quote for success is to,"aim for the moon and if you fail you will land among the stars." I encourage my students to set goals that may be a little outside of their comfort zone, but I will never set a goal that is outside the level of achievement for a specific students skills.
