Overview:
Hello! I am a motivated and passionate teacher. I love being able to share my skills to help students achieve their musical goals. I have been playing guitar for 17 years, being self-taught as well as having some formal training. I graduated MCC with an AS in Guitar Performance achieving a 3.8 GPA as well as formal lessons at Hochstein School of Music. I currently work as a music teacher at a day program for adults with disabilities. I have worked with all different types of people from all different backgrounds, skill sets, and abilities. My unique skill set of having self-guided training, formal training and military experience have given me a good well-rounded perspective. My self-motivation and discipline have paved the way for my success as a musician and I love being able to share my life experience with others in a fun way to help others realize similar goals. Success with an instrument is not for the "naturally gifted" but for the person who perseveres and challenges adversity head-on. I can't wait to work with you!
EXPERIENCE
At my current day job, I am a music teacher at an art-centered music program for adults with varying levels of physical and developmental disabilities. We work on elements of music history, theory, and performance which culminate in a thematic bi-monthly performance. I focus on the needs of each person while still maintaining a fun and engaging group class atmosphere through repetition and a consistent schedule. I also teach private lessons and have taught people from all different age groups and abilities. I focus on each person's individual goals, music preferences and strengths to ensure success on the instrument. I believe that a classical foundation is necessary to be successful and we can adapt that to whatever you want to learn whether it be rock, pop, punk, etc. We will focus on material based on a collaboration between you and myself and will be encouraged to play recitals. Most of all we will have fun and through the training, I will provide, ensure that you have a lifetime of enjoyment playing the beautiful instrument that is the guitar.
METHODS USED
The material that my students work on is based entirely on their current strengths with a progression that allows for growth and a sense of accomplishment at my student's pace. Whether you are a complete novice or have a few years of experience, the training I can provide you will help you climb your individual mountain and achieve the success you are looking for. The repertoire is selected based on my students level of ability as well as musical preference, focusing on the necessary skills needed at each step to be successful. I use the Royal Conservatory of Music method, Kaseys Guitar Method for kids and Guitar For Kidz: The Beginner's Method. This mixed with material from Andres Segovia, Mauro Giuliani, Fernando Sor, Luys De Narvaez, Agustin Barrios, Robert De Visee, Francis Kleynjans, Guy Van Duser, etc in combination with my students preference for material. No matter what age I will offer fun and engaging lessons that foster creativity, discipline and help my students develop a passion for music!
LESSON STYLE
I believe that the biggest rewards in life come through the satisfaction that is felt after accomplishing a goal that you have set out to achieve. Everybody is different when it comes to what those goals are but through similar means, we all find our way to some level of success. This is how I approach private instruction. The role of a teacher I believe is that of a guide and mentor. I work with each student to figure out what their musical goals may be and from there design a plan to achieve those goals and to push further towards new ones. I encourage setting realistic goals and help cultivate the necessary tools and skills to achieve them. Success with an instrument is not for the "naturally gifted" but for the person who perseveres and challenges adversity head-on.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
