1997-1999: Performed with a the Pioneer Valley Choir Society of greater New England.
1998: Sang with the Boston Pop's at Boston symphony hall, under the legendary Keith Lockhart.
2001: Played in a performance with Marty Friedman of the 80's and 90's international rock group Megadeath at USC Los Angeles California.
2006: Performed at the Miami music and film festival and battle of the bands competition.
Overview:
Music is my life, I love to perform, teach, and write music. It gives me great pleasure to share my gift with my students and to be able to know that I was there to help lead them in the right direction towards thier musical goals and acheivments. I am a seasoned musician with a background in muisc starting at the age of 10 when I learned to play the guitar. At the same time I was learning percussion and drums in grade school. Two years later, I started singing and piano lessons from my musical mentor and friend Margery Heinz. I started my musical studies at a summer workshop coarse athe the University of Southern California where I studied Jazz performance. Then I attended a local community college in New England where I received my certificate of music and from there I went on to the University of Massachusettes where I received my associates of music education degree. Later I would attend Berkley college of music for a summer program where I studied compostion and jazz.
EXPERIENCE
I have been giving private music lessons for the past 10 years to students of all age groups. I am always looking to broaden the minds of aspiring beginners and the advanced players who seek to further their musical odyssey's. I enjoy all genres of music. I feel that to be inspired you have to have an appreciation to all styles, for it will keep you more open minded to all possibility's of learning, writing and performing music. I feel that music through it's ability to envoke many feelings and emotions, it can help break barriers, it can help with basic reading, writing, and arithmetic. As well as motor skills I like to make my lessons fun, easy and fullfilling for everyone so they may attain every possible amount of knowledge through my teachings.
METHODS USED
For every one of my beginning students who wants to start playing the guitar or singing, I will alway start them off the best and most knowlegable way I know how, which would be a beginners guide. I started with Hal Leonard's Essential book 1 when I first started learning, and I have always used Hal Leonard's Essential guides for my students. If a student is an intermediate, I can find out where they're at and help them with any handicaps they may have, and point them in the right direction. ***Important note: I am able to teach online via SKYPE or FACETIME as well as in home or studio.
LESSON STYLE
Hello, my name is Nate Bernard. I have been guitar instructing on and off for 15 years along with performing and recording music.
I teach strictly by the book as I feel any student I teach who are just starting out, will have a better understanding of their instrument in the long run.
I like to make learning the guitar fun, and put to ease the frustrations of doing assignments that will inspire any child or adult to want to learn more.
I’m always eager to meet new faces and enjoy sharing my gift with others who are passionate about learning music.
I have never liked the dreaded term "homework". So what I like to tell my students to encourage them to achieve the most success they can, is to simply go home and "practice" because practice makes perfect. I feel that learning any instrument is similar to learning a foreign language. You have to start with baby steps before you can carry on a conversation. Just as learning to read and play/sing the notes with your instrument will get through to the listener more clearly.
