Overview:
I've had to privilege to study with some of the best coaches and teachers in the country, and I want to share with you what I've learned. My operatic and musical theater knowledge, both in theory and practice, is vast, and I want you to use me as a resource for whatever your personal goals may be. I've taught voice lessons privately and at Northwestern University, and I'm excited to provide the same services to the Miami Beach community. I lived in Chicago for two years while I was student at Northwestern and, before that, the Pacific Northwest was my home.
EXPERIENCE
At Northwestern, it was my responsibility, on top of earning my degree, to teach lessons to non-music major students. These student came from all backgrounds and experience levels, and their fields of study included math, computer science, drama, and more. Along with my other students, who I've taught privately for years, they all made improvements in performance practice, musicianship, and, of course, their voices. The principles of singing are universal for every voice, and their so simple that adjustments are easy to make based on voice type, experience level, or any other factor. Students are encouraged to pursue every opportunity that they want, and I do my best to help them on their journey, whatever it looks like.
METHODS USED
The fundamentals of singing can be explained in 15-20 minutes, but it takes a lifetime to master them. Wherever you are in the pursuit of voice, it's necessary to develop reproducible, reliable technique. Singing is breath, vowels and consonants, and feeling, and how the three of them interact is crucial to having a sustainable, easy, and fun instrument. This is where the work is. The first half of each lesson is spent on vocal exercises and technique, and the second half is spent working on repertoire, applying what's been learned in an effective and lasting way.
LESSON STYLE
I love teaching and, as your teacher, I don't need anything from you other than an open mind. I don't need you to prove yourself to me at all, and I want you to improve for yourself. I'm here as a resource to help you achieve your goals, whatever they are. If I do my job well, every student becomes their own teacher, developing a critical ear and knowing how to fix their own problems when they arise. Nothing motivates a singer more than having confidence in their instrument and the knowledge and wisdom of what to do next.
