I am currently a student as SFSU and I am 18 years old. While I am on the younger side of teaching, I have numerous experience with playing violin and also with good & bad violin teachers. I have been the first chair in every orchestra Ensemble since I have been in the 7th grade including the CMEA Bay Area Secdtion Ensemble, Honor Orchestra, Bay Area Honor Orchestra, College of Marin Symphony Orchestra, etc… I have also gotten three music scholarships from three universities, however, since I want to follow a different path, I decided to turn it down. I love playing the violin and I also love kids and working with and know that I will be able to provide good instruction for my students. I am also fluent in English, Farsi, and also ASL.
I have been playing for over 11 years now. I began when I was in the 2nd grade and haven’t stopped it, I fell in love with it!! When I started middle school, my teacher from orchestra asked me to go into her class after my class with her and help out with the 6th graders. During that time, I helped the students tune their violins and took them out in sections to work on their parts and answer any questions they had on the piece they were working on. Once I hit high school, I decided to still continue working for my middle school orchestra teacher and continued to volunteer and help with the 6th, 7th, and 8th graders with their parts and make sure that they were confident in what they were playing.
I would first begin with scales and just focus on getting the correct hand placements. After maybe one or two lessons with focusing on scales, we will then begin with Suzuki books. These books are great for getting the kids more familiar with music and also put their scale practicing to the test. Of course, the scales will still be continued however as the student progresses, we will focus less on scales and put our attention more on various classical music pieces. During this time of improvement, I also would like to add music of their interest (like their favorite lullaby or music).
I love kids and since I am on the younger side of most violin teachers, I believe I have an advantage of connecting with the students more. When there is a nurturing bond between a teacher and a student, it allows the student to connect more and be more responsive throughout their lesson. One of my teaching styles is making the lesson fun by making jokes, connecting the music to their favorite type of music. Another one of my teaching methods is making sure the student and parents needs are met. I will make sure to incorporate the parents needs for their child into the lesson but also add in what the student wants.
