I am an ambitious and caring instructor who loves sharing the joy of music. Currently, I am pursuing a Bachelor of Music Performance focusing in Flute under the amazing Dr. Cobus du Toit at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Teaching music to students of all ages has brought me so much joy. I love seeing how music makes a great impact on the lives of those I teach. My dream is to one day open a music academy, and I am excited to gain as much teaching experience before then as possible. Of course, I love teaching, but I equally love learning from my students, as we all have so much to learn from one another, no matter age or experience level.
I have been teaching students since my sophomore year of high school, 3 years ago. I taught both beginner piano lessons and flute lessons of all levels. I encourage my students to keep a practice journal with their practice schedule, daily practice logs, long term and short term goals, lessons from notes, and anything else that can be useful for improvement. This allows students to continue progressing rather than finding themselves unmotivated to practice. In addition, I teach mainly classical, yet ask my students what their favorite genre is. If they are doing well in other aspects of their lessons, we will work on a piece of their favorite genre as a constructive reward. I find that this positive incentive is both productive, and successful in motivating students to do well. Students of any age enjoy playing tunes from their favorite genre!
No matter the age level or experience of the student, I will first gauge the student's ability and current level. Then I will choose from appropriate method books depending on the student's skill level. If a student has a specific path that they want to take or have their own books they want to learn from, I will cater the lessons to that. I do not have one method to use for all students, as each and every student is different. Rather, I create my own custom lesson plans and materials depending on each student. In addition, I will place a high level of focus on developing musical skills such as aural skills and music theory skills in addition to flute skills, as these will help tremendously with students' abilities.
As mentioned previously, I will encourage students to have a practice journal that tracks many aspects of progress. This, combined with gauging each student's skill level and needs, is the basis of my teaching style. I never use negative incentives with my students, as I believe that does more harm than good. I am always patient with my students and take the time to explain anything until my students understand. I love putting myself in my student's shoes when teaching, as they understand more easily what is being asked of them. I strongly believe that when I give lessons, my students are not the only ones being taught; I also learn a great deal from my students as well, and this way of thinking allows me to create meaningful bonds with my students.
Neeha is a patient and kind teacher, a skilled flutist, and passionate musician. Her teaching methods are not only fun and engaging but also rigorous and productive. A great teacher for both beginners and experienced players.
Neeharika is considerate and is invested in the improvement of her students. She is easy going and tends to be able to break the ice easily with new students. She is able to spread her love for music with her students, and motivate them to not only play more often, but love the art itself.
Both my kids (8 yr & 10 yr) loved Neeharika's teaching style. Last summer we had her for flute and piano lessons. She is very organized, motivated, loves teaching and above all a very patient teacher who knows to deal with different levels of personality. We miss her as we got relocated. We are proud that she is in a good college with good teacher. We wish her an awesome future
