I am a dedicated educator that believes in my student's achievement. During my graduate studies I had the opportunity to educate myself in various styles of teaching. Today, I use traditional music education tools with my students with elements of the Russian conservatory style of learning that developed fine pianists like Rachmaninoff, Prokofiev and Shostakovich. Student's in my studio can perform at entry level up to college skill. I am able to teach students who are advanced and interested in taking piano to new heights.
Along with my degrees in music, I have experience teaching students with learning disabilities. I am able to make accommodations as needed to suite the learning needs of each particular student. Over the past 5 years I have had a piano studio from the Philadelphia area to North Eastern Maryland. Student's of mine who decided to take the advanced level of study have the ability to perform works like "Prokofiev's Cinderella," famous rep. of J. S. Bach and Mozart. I take each of my student's journey through piano very seriously. I would like to help you achieve your goals.
I use piano adventures for most students starting off. With my more advanced students I use "The Russian School of Piano." Once the student is at an appropriate level, I then take them out of the books completely. At this time, we work on more difficult pieces in different time periods. Most students start playing Bach's music at first. This is to help the technique. Mozart also is introduced during this time, while this music is difficult, the interpretation is simplistic compared to Rachmaninoff. This is a time students can work on basic musical applications as well as building their techniques. Following that level, students who are ready then go into more Romantic and Modern music. I like to have my students play at least 2 contrasting styles at a time.
Seeing student success is a very rewarding experience. The process is the best part. Showing students how to advance their skills is something I have always enjoyed since I began teaching. I inform students about the historical elements of piano, how to compose, how to listen to music and how to perform. It is more than just performing simple pieces, it's an understanding of what the composer did to create such music. This allows the student to connect to that music, allowing them to have a more musical and well-thoughtout performance.
