I'm a professional musician based out of Nashville, TN. I've played piano since I was around 4 (26 years), Guitar and Violin since I was 6 (24 years), and Mandolin since I was 16 (14 Years). I took jazz band and orchestra throughout grade school, as well as performed in the honor orchestra, Ark-La-Tex Youth Symphony, as well as did some fill in work with the Shreveport Symphony. I took private violin, classical guitar, and piano lessons throughout grade school as well. After grade school, I went to Northwestern State University to study Music Performance on a Violin Scholarship. Eventually, I graduated from Louisiana State University with a Bachelor's in International Marketing. I also took some guitar courses at Berklee Online.
I've been touring professionally for 11 years and have been to all 50 states as well as 9 foreign countries. I've worked with Billy Currington, Jana Kramer, Carly Pearce, Mickey Guyton, Neal McCoy, Marc Broussard, Maggie Koerner, Stephen Speaks, and others on Guitar, Violin, Mandolin, or Piano. I was also signed to Epic Records as a member of the band Levon.
I've also been fortunate enough to participate in several sessions in different roles such as player, producer, and engineer.
My teaching experience started when I was in High School. I began tutoring other players in the high school Jazz band and Orchestra on one on one lessons for the instructors. At the same time I began taking on students of all levels and ages for piano, guitar, and violin. I maintained a large roster of students until I was 23 and my touring schedule became too busy to continue to have that many students. Now that my schedule has started to slow down, I want to use my extra time to help students at any level either start or continue their education in music. Playing music has been the best thing in my life, and I want to be abe to give that to someone else.
I start with students by asking them what they want to accomplish on whatever instrument we're working on, and that will change the way the lessons progress. After the basics, if they want to study classical music, contemporary, or just strengthen the basic skills they have, then we progress from there. This could mean sticking to Hal Leonard books, learning songs, diving deeply into theory, or understanding the world of improvisation. Its's important to determine what direction were going after the basics, because each has its own necessary approach.
I've found that with any instrument, its important to pick music that stretches you, but also music that the student likes or loves to keep them interested and engaged. It can sometimes be hard work, so it's important that the result is you either accomplishing a goal and that could be in technic or learning a song that you love. Even if the student wants to work on improve, we can figure out a song that they enjoy, or have wanted to play along with for a long time, and we can build a track of that song for them to practice too. Every student is different and every students needs a slightly different approach for what they need.
