Course Work:
I'm a passionate and motivated instructor who loves working with students and sharing my love and knowledge of guitar. I am currently enrolled at Cabrillo College working on my Music BA, and Music Therapy degree. Performing live in numerous bands and playing with some big names in the music industry my experience in the music industry has been an amazing experience in my life. Sharing the gift of music to people is truly a beautiful experience. I want to share this passion of mine to anyone interested in learning the guitar. My lesson plans are full of excitement, that after every lesson you can't wait to play again! The whole point I try to get across to my students is that when you start learning guitar and getting better, it becomes part of your identity!
My teaching experience dates back to when I started playing as a teenager. Once I learned a few licks from my favorite bands, I wanted to tell all my friends. It began with one friend, then another, then a family member, and then complete strangers, and more and more people, I would even try to teach to pets! (Maybe not that far) Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points. In order to grow and become greater then before is through repetition, "the mother of all skill". I like to teach first, a few things I have in mind from my lesson plan that I have developed and then I cater to my student, to get them more and more excited about playing. My goal is for my students to be so confident that they have this amazing new skill they can apply to everyday life.
For beginning students I like to start off with a book called, Beginner Guitar Level 1 by: Tom Hess. It goes straight to learning how to just play! None of that waiting around, I want you to learn right away! As each lesson goes by, my students will progress from single melody lines, to two string melodies, to chords, and then arpeggios. Some pros don't even have this kind of practice! For students who have more experience I have my own lesson plan for them. Usually by the time you reach a certain level, lets say intermediate, you know what you like to play,or listen to. I then figure out what you are into and then teach that. For instance if you are really into reggae, I have a developed lesson plan that has Reggae lessons 1-20. Beginning reggae to advanced!!! I teach all genres and my goal is for others to explore the different styles of guitar.
The most rewarding thing I experience is when I see a student get super excited after they have just learned something new and challenging. My approach to learning guitar is like a mini game in which you know when you have passed a certain level. It is clear what's next, and you can't move on until you have beaten the boss of each level, and my students love this! I look at guitar a lot differently than most people, and I also teach it differently. It's a method that allows the student to have fun first. While they are enjoying they are also getting better, in return making you a real life rock-star!!!
