It gives me great joy seeing a student's enthusiasm and connection with the guitar as they develop their talent as a musician and human being. I also enjoy the interpersonal relationship that grows with the parent and child from the early stages into working through the teen years together. A music education not only fosters talent but builds a student's character both physically and mentally.
I am a classical guitarist, active teacher and currently accepting students of Suzuki Guitar in the Milwaukee area. I began teaching guitar 10 years ago after receiving my Bachelor's of Music with a Studio Art Minor from the University of Wisconsin at Oshkosh. In 2008, I graduated with a Master's degree in Guitar Performance from the University of Wisconsin Madison while studying under internationally famed performer and recording artist Javier Calderon. Later that year I became a certified Music Together instructor and taught children basic music competency skills as well as guitar for the following three years. With my experience working with children, finger-style guitar and music, it has always been my interest to combine these elements into a pedagogical methodology for children to learn and experience the joy of guitar while growing as a human being. In 2011 I discovered the Suzuki Method for guitar and I have embraced the philosophy wholeheartedly.
Suzuki Guitar Instruction-Students typically begin Suzuki Guitar between the ages of three and ten, depending on your child's development and the parent's commitment to attending the lessons, group classes and leading the daily practices in a supportive environment. The Suzuki Method is a complete instrumental training that develops the student's playing all the way to adulthood at the same time increasing self-esteem, focus, concentration, and mutual respect and understanding between parent, child and teacher. In addition, Suzuki method fosters self-discipline, learning healthy and creative pathways of self-expression and preparing the student for a life of enjoyment through music making. Adult Classical Guitar-Learning the classical guitar can be a very fulfilling and enriching experience no matter what your talent level. From my personal experience, I did not receive classical guitar instruction until I was in my early twenties and did not realize what beautiful music I had been missing for most of my life. It was that experience that inspired me to make it my career and pursue a dream. You will learn the classical guitar in a supportive environment that will not only go at the pace of your learning style but challenge as well. Whether you are a beginner, intermediate or advanced player, I believe you will have a positive and enjoyable experience learning the classical guitar!
It is my goal as a Suzuki and classical guitar teacher to challenge the student while inspiring them to be good players and human beings as they go through their musical journey. As a teacher, I think it is important to be genuine and to let loose at times to motivate and encourage the student in a supportive and safe environment. Lastly, it is my aim to work as a team with the student to truly maximize a positive, joyous and memorable experience all the while focusing on tone, technique and good posture. I look forward to working with your child and making a difference in her/his life. I hope we have many enjoyable lessons together!
