Overview:
I play in a wide variety of diverse musical groups on various instruments. I have performed with orchestras, big bands, and jazz combos as well as funk, hip hop, and even metal bands, all at a professional level. Although trombone is my main instrument, it has given me the solid foundation to play euphonium and tuba at a high level as well. My strong background in guitar also gave me the skills to learn ukulele, which now make up almost half of my lessons taught.
EXPERIENCE
My undergraduate degree in music education and my master's in performance helped me in forming a well-rounded view of the music world. I have been teaching 1-on-1 lessons for around 5 years in my own private studio, music stores, and different area schools. It is one of my favorite things to do and I take pride in the development of young musicians as well as those trying to find music later in their lives.
METHODS USED
For brass players, I use Arbans, Bordogni, and Blazhevich etude books coupled with Rubank and other duets to form a solid foundation. From there I try and let the students' own interest in music guide other parts of practice. With strings I like to start out with the Hal Leonard beginning books to get the basics of reading music. From there I couple learning popular tunes the student picks with developing method books to maintain a strong fundamental of playing. No matter where someone's musical tastes lie, it is my job to give them the ability to get the sound they want.
LESSON STYLE
I believe my top goal as a music teacher is to encourage the exploration of music. Any of my students should be discovering new music, branching out from the style(s) they are already interested in. I've obtained an appreciation of so many different forms of the art that I love to share. I want you to play the music you enjoy playing!
