I have dedicated my entire life to learning and teaching the piano. I have 22 years of playing experience and over 10 years of teaching experience. I love working with students of all ages and sharing my passion for music. I consider it a privilege to be able to pass down this skill and I don’t take the responsibility lightly. My lessons revolve around not just learning the instrument, but making sure this is a fun experience for my students. I have been fortunate enough to play with several quartets and symphonies that play nursing homes, churches, and public spaces such as parks. My passion for music is unparalleled and it’s my goal to unlock that passion within you.
EXPERIENCE
I have over 10 years of teaching experience with the last 7 years being full time. I started playing piano when I was 5 so I have over 22 years of playing experience. The number one thing I stress about learning to play the piano (except practice of course!) is that you need to be having fun at all times. Music is supposed to be fun so it’s my job to make sure my students are enjoying each lesson and each time they sit down at their piano. I personalize each lesson plan to make sure my students can have fun and learn at the same time. I can teach any genre of music and music theory in general. I have experience teaching all ages, from 5 years old to 70 years old. So I’m always looking to start teaching new students of all ages!
METHODS USED
For beginning students I usually start with either Fundamentals of Piano Theory or just basic note reading and writing. Since each student is different and responds differently to any variety of instruction methods, it’s important for me to be flexible and find the right one for the student. For kids, keeping the material light enough to understand while being challenging and engaging is important. For adults, being aware that they have busy lives with not as much time to practice as kids is something I always take into consideration.
LESSON STYLE
My mindset when it comes to teaching is that if you are not having fun with music, then I am doing my job wrong. Everyone learns differently and wants to learn different styles of music. So each student gets a completely personalized lesson plan to fit their wants and needs. I encourage all my students to take things slow and to not get discouraged if they don’t get something right away. I have been playing piano for over 22 years and there’s still things I can’t get right away. And I always stress this after every lesson. Practice, practice, practice, and then practice some more because if you put in the work, you will see results.
