I'm a performing bassist and music educator with a strong background in jazz and classical music. I love to share my love of music with students and help them discover their own unique path. In 2022, I graduated from the Berklee College of Music with a degree in Performance after receiving the Jimmy Lyons full tuition scholarship. I've had the opportunity to study and play with great jazz musicians such as John Patitucci, Linda May Han Oh, Joe Lovano, and Danilo Perez, as well as perform at venues throughout Boston and the US such as Wallys Jazz Cafe, The Lilypad, Berklee Performance Center, Monterey Jazz Festival, and Dazzle Jazz Club. I am currently continuing my music studies as a Jazz Performance major at New England Conservatory.
My experience as a music educator started in high school when my band director sent a few middle school bass and guitar students my way, at which point I discovered a great love for teaching. Since then I have taught several electric and upright bass students throughout my time as a Berklee student, as well as rhythm section master classes. I'm experienced in teaching students of all ability levels in subjects such as technique, rhythm/ear training, sight reading, music theory, and composition. I am very much looking forward to growing my private lesson studio and sharing my love of music with many more students.
I am a big proponent of a hands-on learning approach that relies heavily on musical interaction and performance preparation. The best way to improve as a musician is to play, so I try to pinpoint what the student is interested in playing and focus our attention toward that, all while developing foundational music skills such as rhythm, sight reading, theory, ear training, and harmony. I like to start my students on a series of warm-ups and technical exercises that I've found to be essential in developing good technique for students of all abilities and experience levels, and eventually work up to playing repertoire that will strengthen their fundamentals and fulfil their musical interests.
My main goal as a music educator is to help students discover their own spark, or passion, for music and give them a space to let that spark grow and flourish. I like to give small assignments each lesson based on their interests and goals we set together, which I believe helps motivate the student to improve and encourages them to make new musical discoveries each week. I'm dedicated to providing a creative learning environment for students that encourages experimentation, growing from mistakes, and discovering great joy through music.
