Overview:
I have loved music from a young age and enjoy musical adventures with my students. Every day I find ways to connect a singing tone to work with pianist, singers, and other woodwind performers. I have a quest to understand music at the deepest levels and bring the benefits of Conservatory training and the joy of music festivals to every lesson. I studied bassoon performance, music education classes, woodwind and vocal techniques at the University of Miami with Luciano Magnanini and completed my studies in performance, music history and music composition at the Cincinnati College-Conservatory on a full scholarship with William Winstead and Allan Sapp. Since that time I have performed with Northern Kentucky Symphony and the Atlantic Classical Orchestra, performed many original compositions at churches in the DC area. I attended Eastern Music Festival, Sarasota Music Festival and Arkansas Music Festival. In Tennessee I served as adjunct music faculty with Bryan College and taught college seniors courses that would prepare them for the next level of musicianship after graduation.
EXPERIENCE
I had great experiences as a student and I want to share those with my students. I always remember the struggle I went through to find someone who taught my instrument and he turned out to be such a generous advisor and so patient! I like to get to know students as individuals and find the right projects to work on together so that they advance quickly and stay motivated. I help students get to know their musical and artistic capacities and then expand them as they train themselves to memorize, sight read, compose, improvise, and become excited to enjoy music with all their soul and share it with others.
METHODS USED
For young beginners pianists I emphasize the basic posture and approach and finger position through 5 finger exercises then use Piano Adventures by Faber and Faber and challenging them to memorize as many little tunes as they can. A similar approach works for winds in memorizing favorite melodies and learning scales and arpeggios and long tones and we incorporate music theory with an elementary method and duets/improvisation of material. No matter what level I set reasonable goals for each month and help them invest in the world of music by daily listening and playing on their chosen instrument.
LESSON STYLE
“Music expresses that which cannot be put into words and that which cannot remain silent” ― Victor Hugo Teaching Music is a great passion of mine, musical gifts are meant to be shared and expanded. Music expresses that which can not be said and develops your creativity, thinking skills, and ability to focus and create something fun and beautiful. Having private lessons should give you a sense you have a coach and someone who is on your team to expand your musical horizons as an individual or part of a family and community.

I love having a teacher who really cares about me as a person. Nicole understands that as an adult student I have many demands on my time and energy. She makes it easy for me to experience my life and my music at the same time. It's a good thing!

As an adult beginning piano student, Nicole was patient, thorough and very skilled as a teacher. She made the lessons fun and enjoyable to learn and soon I was on my to being able to play one of my favorite songs on the piano from the movie Sounds of Music.
