I have recently moved to the beautiful state of Florida, and love it here! New Mexico was my home prior to moving here. I have performed in many ensembles, and do solo recitals annually. My performance experience includes Symphony Orchestras, Pit Orchestras, Wind Ensembles, Chamber Music, Polka Band, Latin Band, Big Band, and I have been a guest soloist on several occasions. In addition to music, I enjoy photography. The YouTube video on this profile puts my two passions together....my music, and my photos.
I opened my clarinet studio while in college. Over the next decade, my studio grew to over 40 students. It was a diverse studio with clarinetists of all levels and ages! I am excited to be teaching privately, and building my studio again, here in Florida! Lessons with me will be a good mix of work and fun. Proper preparation (regular practice) is encouraged, as well as student input. What a student WANTS to learn is just as important as what a student NEEDS to learn. Finally, I believe that music is for everyone (it is NOT for the elite few)....and that all can succeed, at their own pace and level. What I want my students to take away from studying with me is that music isn't just something to enjoy for now...it is something that they can enjoy forever.
Each student in my studio is treated as an individual, with their own unique lesson plan tailored just for them. A typical lesson includes fundamentals (scales, articulation, embouchure), etudes, sight reading, solo repertoire, and duets....plus anything the student is working on in their current performing ensemble(s). I use a wide variety of method books like Learn To Play The Clarinet, Rubank Methods, Lazarus Method for Clarinet, Klose Celebrated Method for Clarinet, and a multitude of etude studies from Rose to Cavallini. I have developed embouchure and articulation exercises that, if practiced diligently, will ensure success in these areas.
I believe that private instruction is the best way for anyone to advance their learning of a particular instrument. One-on-one instruction ensures that each student is getting what they need as an individual. Here, I am able to address the learning style of each student, as a unique musician. Playing WITH the student, both in unison, and in duets, students have the opportunity to see and hear a model for clarinet playing. In my studio, the students' musical needs and desires are paramount; and together, we will celebrate successes, pinpoint areas of improvement, inspire one another, and have fun!
