I am passionate about anything and everything music-related. I have studied and teach the guitar, piano, bass and also have an in-depth knowledge of music theory. I am particularly interested in the genres of metal, jazz, jazz-fusion, and ragtime music, although I have experience teaching other genres like classical, pop, funk, and blues. Some of my favorite bands/artists to name a few are Dream Theater, Allan Holdsworth, Jacob Collier, Tigran Hamasyan, Meshuggah, Alex Machacek, Animals as Leaders, Polyphia and Chick Corea. I have taught students ranging from total beginners to seasoned musicians and has experience teaching all age ranges, from little kids to adults. I enjoy working with his students to realize their goals, whether those are songwriting, improvising, learning new repertoire, technique, music theory, ear training, understanding the basics of the instrument, or others.
I have experience teaching complete beginners to seasoned musicians. I have taught in-studio lessons, in-home lessons, and also have experience teaching private lessons. I have helped many students with reaching their goals, whether that is physically playing a particular piece, understanding the theory behind one of their favorite pieces, understanding how to create their own compositions, as well as other goals. This has been under many different genres like classical, jazz, rock. blues, funk, etc..
I try to provide a good balance between working on theory, technique, and repertoire, and working on aspects that might be more fun like a students favorite song. This allows the student to make progress while also keeping motivated, which is really important for long term goals. For children, the balance has to lean more towards the more entertaining aspect, because of the reduced attention span. I actively work towards getting the younger students to increase their tolerance towards difficult challenges so that they can make more overall progress.
My teaching style is based on whatever the goals of my student are. If my student shows an interest in being able to play a particular piece, then we are working step by step to reach that goal by building up to it. If they want to write their own music in a particular style, then I am helping them analyze music that they are influenced by to better understand how to add it to their vocabulary. I also encourage students to try to begin playing in front of others to help them realize there is a big difference between playing by yourself versus playing for others and/or with others.
