As a soloist and chamber musician, I am regularly playing concerts around the world, in countries like Germany, France, Luxembourg, Spain, Austria, Czech Republic, Russia, Lithuania and of course throughout the US. Being able to share my love for music as well as my knowledge and experience through teaching others means a lot to me and I am very passionate about it. I have two Master of Music Degrees in Violin performance - from The Moscow Conservatory in Russia and from The Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore.
I have been sharing my love of music and teaching students for more than 10 years. I strongly believe in encouraging my students to practice and set up goals that would help them grow. These goals include learning a new challenging piece, getting prepared for a recital, audition or competition. I believe in helping my students with learning how to practice on their own and being able to work independently from our lessons. Knowing how to manage their practicing time is an important skill and I am always looking for new ways to practice. I am always helping my students to find and learn the repertoire that they enjoy, which makes the process of learning much more fun and enjoyable for them.
In my teaching method, I am creating a custom plan for every single student. With beginner students, I am starting from the fundamentals and using books: Essential Elements, Suzuki Book 1&2, one and two octaves scales and etudes by Kreutzer, Wohlfahrt, and Mazas. For all of my students, I am always trying to find the repertoire that they would enjoy to practice. I encourage my students to share what style or particular piece they like and help them to find the right edition or arrangement and learn it.
My main goal is to create a positive, productive and enjoyable learning experience for my students. In my lessons, I am helping my students to learn not only the particular technique or element but some aspects of music history as well as composers' background and important facts about musical styles. Each semester I have a recital for my students where they can share their progress and excitement about the lessons and music. As I concert soloist and professional performer, I understand how important it is to have performance opportunities!
Nikita prepared me for my college auditions, and I have no idea what I would have done without him. On top of being an incredible musician, he is also a fantastic teacher. Nikita some how manages to be picky and have high standards, but have you leave your lesson with confidence and motivation to keep getting better. I have seen Nikita work with students of all ages and he tailors his instruction to each student. Anyone would be lucky to have Nikita as a teacher!
I am in my 50s but was a beginning student, never having even held a violin when I began lessons with Nikita. Amazingly, in a very short time, I was able to connect bow, strings and notes to actually play songs. This was only possible through Nikita's patience and expertise as an extremely talented musician and teacher. He transfers his passion to his student, motivating you to improve though humor, example and fundamentals. Nikita has exacting standards intended to help you strive for excellence, but he is never stern. He provides a sequential violin curriculum but also individualizes by encouraging students to choose music in genres of their choosing and interest. I can't believe how confident I became under Nikita's tutelage. I highly recommend Nikita as a teacher!
