Bachelor Degree: University of Georgia
I am currently 25 years old living and making a living playing music in Chattanooga TN. I grew up playing trumpet from 10 through college and studied with several teachers through high school and college. I started playing bass and piano over the pandemic and currently perform primarily on bass. I have been playing live gigs since high school and have played festivals such as Riverbend, nightfall, and riverfront nights in Chattanooga. I studied mostly Jazz in school but enjoy playing all genres.
I am not a highly experienced teacher but I have taught trumpet students online over the pandemic and also have taught some private students here in Chattanooga. I feel that my minor in Jazz studies in college and hundreds of private lessons throughout my life has given me many skills to show to other- not only on how to play an instrument but also diving into music theory, scales, chords, and some advanced jazz theory. I also like to have the student pick a main piece to work on and plan to have a recital on that piece at a certain date. I always find that having goals to work towards is the most effective for growth. However, I do not require this but encourage it.
I like to customize the lessons towards exactly what the student wants. I begin by asking the students particular goals. Almost like a doctor, I like to diagnose specific exercises that are aimed at those goals. I like combining several different aspects of playing all into simple exercises that the student can understand and expand off of while learning theory at the same time! I have something to offer students at all levels. If the student is new to the instrument I will focus on the technical aspects of playing primarily before giving into deeper musical understanding.
My goal in teaching students primarily is to bring joy to their lives. Music should be fun, not a laborious exercise that creates stagnation in creativity. I always try and add elements of fun to my teachings so that the student feels joy in taking the lessons first and foremost while learning basic fundamentals at the same time. I have found in my teachings that creating small goals that the student can easily complete creates an environment where the students growth, creativity, and satisfaction is synonymous.
