BM Trumpet Performance
With Highest Honors. University of Colorado, Boulder, 2011.
Outstanding Graduating Senior, CU College of Music, 2011.
Overview:
I have been playing trumpet since I was nine. In college I studied classical trumpet. I perform regularly in the Denver area and nationally. As a recording artist, I have contributed to several noteworthy albums, including Fourteen Channels, which cracked the top 50 on the JazzWeek charts.
EXPERIENCE
I have experience teaching and performing many styles, including classical, jazz, and world music. I have been teaching one-on-one lessons and small groups for the past two years.
METHODS USED
I use elements of the master brass teachers' methods. The teachings of Arban, Clarke, Colin, Arnold Jacobs, and Carmine Caruso are my influences, and I use their ideas and exercises in lessons. I emphasize the fundamentals of trumpet playing: tone production, articulation, flexability, and finger dexterity. It is important for students to play by ear as well as read written notation.
LESSON STYLE
I tailor lessons for each individual student, helping them to grow as well-rounded musicians while keeping music-making enjoyable and satisfying. I use a combination of exercises and etudes to help with different aspects of playing, and solos and songs to let the student apply those concepts and make music.
