Overview:

I’m a woodwind doubler based in New York City; graduated with a degree in saxophone performance from Kennesaw State University in 2011. I’m passionate about music and enjoy sharing all the skills required to enjoy playing an instrument with my students. I spent years touring the world on cruise ships, international acts, and pit orchestras. Nowadays I focus most of my time working on playing all the single reed instruments and playing in the bands in musicals locally in and outside of New York City.

EXPERIENCE

I’ve had many wonderful mentors in my musical journey over the years, and I would love nothing more than to replicate the experiences that I’ve had for others! As a freelance musician, I believe that musical variety is key to learning and enjoying any instrument. Additionally, I believe that fostering a desire to improve is paramount- the dedication to practice is something no one should take lightly, and being able to find joy and motivation while playing is the key to a lifelong love of music.

METHODS USED

Depending on the individual needs goals of each student, I will customize lesson plans on a week-to-week basis. If there are no immediate goals for my students, I prefer to focus on classical technique and tone exercises that I compile through a variety of method books for each woodwind instrument. This includes but is not limited to: Moyse, Kroepsch, Baermann, Ferling, Shaw, Filas, Lacour, and many others. Classical technique is boring however, and I also believe that it should be applied towards learning real music that I will tailor to each student!

LESSON STYLE

I believe strongly that passion is infectious, and is key to my teaching. I ask all of my student to set realistic goals and treat our progress as a journey in which we will gradually pick up the skills to grow with steady work. This comes from enjoying the “artistic process” and can only be discovered when we move together at a pace that is comfortable for the student. The only requirement I have for any budding musicians is that we both be open-minded and willing to listen using our ears and mind (this goes for me too!).
