Overview:

As an active composer, musician and teacher I have been active in the Indianapolis music scene beginning in high school. Pursuing a Bachelor of Music Degree at the University of Indianapolis, I hope to eventually earn my Doctor of Music Degree and teach collegiate level. I have extensive experience both as a soloist and with ensembles. I have played for a number of jazz big bands and new music ensembles. With divergent thinking and an out-side-the-box approach, my teaching has yielded technically savvy guitarists with overflowing musicality and most importantly, a love for the arts.

EXPERIENCE

I began giving guitar lessons around the age of 15. I was eventually hired as an instructor at GuitarWorks in Greenwood, Indiana where my teaching experience blossomed. I was able to work with five year olds to fifty year olds of all skill levels and musical interests. This greatly broadened my approach for each individual student to tailor my lessons according to their interests and goals. As I know from my own experience, an instructor can most certainly become a great influence and role model to their students. I try to not only produce wonderful musicians, but disciplined, passionate individuals.

METHODS USED

In my time as an instructor, I have not used any particular method book in my lessons. I will buy a notebook for each student where all important information from the lesson will be recorded. I write charts and exercises myself using tablature or standard notion depending on the student. As music being such a cumulative concept, I like to not only focus on pedagogy, but music theory and aural skills as well. This enforces a much stronger foundation on which students may build their knowledge of their instrument and music as a whole.

LESSON STYLE

I certainly have adopted the teaching styles of my previous and current instructors, each bringing a unique approach to teaching an instrument. Patience and understand is crucial with any students, and there needs to be a lot of fun and excitement within a lesson, otherwise, what is the point? Now, fun and excitement must also be met with serious practice time and great concentration during a lesson. My objective is to create a comfortable environment fertile for learning, while at the same time having my students know there are skills to refine and concepts to solidify.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
