I am a dedicated and enthusiastic music instructor deeply committed to fostering a love for music in my students. In 2015, I earned my Bachelor's degree in Vocal Performance from the University of Michigan, followed by a Master's degree in Vocal Performance from the Boston Conservatory at Berklee in 2019. Whether performing as a vocalist, sight-reading complex musical compositions, or interpreting nuanced musical pieces, I bring a multifaceted skill set to my role as an educator. My commitment to providing a nurturing and intellectually stimulating environment aligns with my belief in the transformative power of music education.
I have been teaching privately for the past 4 years, and established my personal virtual studio 3 years ago. I began to take on students after my master's degree, and in that time I have learned a great deal about using a completely individual approach per each student's needs. I am experienced in a wide variety of teaching scenarios: training the earliest beginner (of all ages!), preparing students for college auditions, and being a coach for professionals. As a teacher with a performance background, I am delighted to say I have discovered a new love of song through teaching!
My methods vary greatly dependent upon the needs of the student. For younger students, I start with early fundamentals (music in general, breathing, and confidence) through easy songs that are recognizable and fun to learn. As a student ages, the voice matures, so I assess a student's vocal qualities and give them appropriate rep through their voice changing. For teens and adults, I focus on finding appropriate pieces that are in line with a student's preferred genre. Within that, we focus on the technical elements of singing: proper placement, breath stamina, extension of range, and as always, confidence!
I have been described as a "vocal cheerleader"! In a lesson with me you can expect a relaxed, fun environment fueled by curiosity, playfulness, introspection and humor. I find that making vocal discoveries is most poignant when in a safe space to explore. I use a combination of yoga and Alexander Technique to encourage mindfulness of the body, and I use traditional vocal techniques that apply to every style to make a singer feel an ease of vocal production. With my younger students, it's a lot of fun and silliness, with some "accidental learning"!
