Hello my name is Ofer C. and I am a huge proponent and fan of music and the arts. I have spent most of my life making music as well as teaching music. I am originally from Israel but have lived in Maryland since I was 3 years old. I am currently getting my Doctorate of Musical Arts at Boston University so that I can pursue my goal of Teaching and Performing. I have played in all kinds of settings and consider myself to be a very versatile musician. I have played with and performed with the Altoona Symphony Orchestra (PA), Williamsport Symphony Orchestra (PA), and Nittanny Valley Symphony (PA). In addition I have performed in the pit orchestras for productions of Young Frankenstein, The Drowsy Chaperone, and Urinetown
I first started teaching trombone in High school to a student 3 years younger than I was. That was when I first realized how inspiring and important teaching really can be. I continued to teach into college to students around the area. From there I started to realize the more I taught, the better I played and the more I played, the better I taught. In addition, I was the trombone teacher at a Band camp in Sweden, Maine known as Camp Encore/Coda! I have plenty of experience teaching trombone lessons in person as well as over zoom.
No matter the student, my goal is to put the music first. So often when playing and practicing we forget why we learn an instrument and practice. It is my goal and duty to always put the music first because in doing so good things will happen. By using Etudes and songs the student enjoys playing, I place the importance on the music making. The technical aspect comes in later. I want to help and aid in phrasing and the direction of line. Once we are able to stray away from the vertical playing, meaning note to note, we are able to focus on the horizontal aspect and the musical direction.
My style is very laid back but super informative. I have studied with at least 5 different fantastic teachers that have all taught me how I want to go about teaching my students. By being constructive and kind, I feel as though I see the most progress. In addition I am a huge proponent of singing. I believe that if you can sing the part you can play the part. My method includes a Singing, buzzing and then playing which will help incorporate the ear into every musical thing we do. You cannot play the trombone if you cannot hear the note before hand.
