I am a professional guitar player, composer and educator. In 2008, I graduated from Michigan State University with a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Composition. Prior to that, I finished programs in Europe as a guitar player in 1991. I moved to the United States in 1994. From 1995 to 2001, I've completed Master's degrees in Guitar, Composition and Electronic Music from University of Maine and Cleveland State University. From 2009 to 2016, I 've served on Active Duty in the United States Army as a guitarist, percussionist, composer and arranger. Nowadays, I reside in Atlanta area and work as a Composer for movies, guitar teacher and recording artist. My credits include: Grammy nominated reggae artist King Issac, (album "MAKUWERERE!", 2018) and Nemesi, ("CONCENTRATED VIBES", 2019)
My teaching experience began in Ukraine. After graduating from college, I taught for two years in the Art school as a guitar instructor. In the United States, I taught in Cleveland at Royalton Music Center for 4 years. My studio had 54 students. After moving to Michigan, I had a privilege to teach at Michigan State University Community Music School for 7 years. A number of my students entered and finished guitar programs in US universities. One to mention is University of Western Michigan. I am proud of my students and I know they are doing well now.
I have a very personal teaching method to everyone. Depending on my student needs, I choose the book we go by. It can vary from Hal Leonard to Mel Bay or Jamie Aebersold. When I have classical guitar guys, I can pick between Andreas Segovia or Ted Tennant, etc. For jazz, for example, Frank Gambale or Scott Henderson, etc. Most important, I focus on fundamentals and discipline, making sure we have something new to explore every lesson if we can. These days, I use "youtube" and other Internet resources to motivate and encourage my students to be inspired and to be successful.
My style is performance focused. This includes developing an artistic sense and creativity in my student. I want them to be able to perform at world class level on stage or in the recording studio. I want my students to understand what it takes to be become a Master or their domain. I employ a method by the book and require every day practice. Every lesson consist of two parts. First, we go over the home work. Second, if home work is good, we explore new material. I am a big fan of having my students to perform at the studio recitals. At this time, they live a real musician's life and learn how to perform in front of an audience and supress a stage fear.
