I am currently a student pursuing a BFA degree in the arts. I have been playing music since the age of 7 and specifically the clarinet for 10 years now. I have been giving lessons to beginners and intermediate level students for the past 5 or so years. I love teaching and sharing my love of music and the arts with others.
The more familiar the student is with the instrument the easier it is for them to be more confident in their performance. I encourage my students to perform in recitals and to compete as well as be apart of a band program as well. It is a great way to make wonderful friends. To this day I have made my best friends from being in band from a young age that I keep in close touch with to this day.
I focus mainly on teaching students basic music theory as I have found and believe that is the best way to become a sucessful musician. I encourage regular practice, at least an hour a day 5 days a week. I focus a lot on tone, sight reading, and musical terms and how to prepare for an audition.
I let my students set their own goals from a list of basic/intermediate goals I come up with that may be good for them to improve on or learn for future sucess. I let them set their own pace and never let them get discourage or be hard on themselves. Music is fun! It should never be something a student feels is a burden or something they no longer want to do simply because it may take them a little longer to pick up on.
