I graduated from Western Connecticut State University with a B.S in Music Education, certified in grades PK - 12 spring 2018. I have made my way down to Hattiesburg, MS with my husband to pursue a M.M in Vocal Performance at the University of Southern Mississippi. Building upon my tool has been extremely beneficial not only for me, but also my students. I have had amazing performance opportunities that have built me into the musician I am today. Some credits include Western Connecticut Opera ensemble, Western Connecticut Chamber and Concert choir, Peter Townshed's Rock Opera at the Metropolitan Opera House, Connecticut Lyric Opera Young artist, Yale School of Music Opera, Citywide Youth Opera, and Mannes School of Music Opera Extension Division.
Being certified as a a music teacher in CT, I have had the wonderful experience to student teach in both an elementary school teaching general music, grades K-5 in Southbury, CT and also as a middle school in Bristol, CT teaching choir and general music, grades 6-8. Before my student teaching, I worked as a music teacher intern for a Pre-K in New Fairfield, CT. All through my undergrad, I taught at a studio teaching private voice for students ranging in ages between 8 to 60 years old. I have learned so much from each and every student that is indescribable, except that I found the key to good teaching and good learning is respect and love for the students and for the music at any age. As a teacher, I believe that music can be used as a tool to remove the barriers of physical, emotional, intellectual disabilities and socio - economic status. Because music is so innately co - curricular, the benefits are endless and can only add to one's life.
Voice lessons are possible at any age and any level,. Below are the goals for each student at their level and will be adjusted according to each student. The ultimate goal is to develop a healthy natural sound while becoming a literate musician who can sing many styles. Beginner - Posture - Breath Support - Placement - Music reading - Basic Piano skills - Vocal anatomy - Italian Art Songs - Song/style of choice Intermediate - Building on beginner goals - Sight reading - Harmonizing on piano - Italian and English Art Songs - Introduce opera aria - Song/style of choice Advanced - Building on Beginner/intermediate goals -Building repetoire - Learn songs in German, French, Italian, and English -advanced sight reading - Song/style of choice
My favorite part about teaching is discovering how each student learns and using their strengths to enhance their trouble areas. For example, I use a lot of manipulative and physical movement for many visual and kinestetic learners whether its solfege hop scotch, ball bouncing, drawing, etc - students will learn fun and creative ways to learn musical concepts and discover their voice. Developing a whole and healthy voice and musical ability is my ultimate goal for each student and I will make sure to find a path that fits each individual student.
