EXPERIENCE

My teaching experience dates back to my college days, as I began teaching private lessons part time 8 years ago, and have been consistently teaching students in my home studio for the last 5 years. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument. I've also found that a combination of classical and modern music can go a long way in helping students enjoy the piano and motivate them to practice and continue to learn. If a student isn't having fun in their lessons, then I'm not doing my job! My students are encouraged to enter competitions and recitals, as well as work on composing their own original material, so they can feel good about their accomplishments and stay motivated to learn. I'm always looking to bring on new students of all ages!

METHODS USED

I am inspired to watch students grow as musicians at every level. My goal is to facilitate positive growth and incite self-efficacy within my students. This is achieved through lessons that take the phrase “teaching the whole student” literally. Understanding the diverse learning needs and various experiences that my students bring to the classroom, helps me to choose music and activities that cultivate enriching and meaningful experiences. Students need to feel safe and supported to be able to thrive in any educational setting. I believe that the positive relationships that we build off of the podium are essential to our success on it. This is achieved through creating a welcoming environment for all students, and integrating their feedback into my own reflective practices. Student centered learning has always been a method of education that I strive to practice within my own classroom. I believe that when the student is the focus in the classroom, meaningful learning can occur.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
