I'm an enthusiastic and motivated instructor who loves working with students to pursue their musical dreams! I have had music in my life as long as I can remember, and love teaching my students to express their talent. I have performed and accompanied many choirs, including a performance at the Kentucky Center for the Arts here in Louisville, KY. I have also been a musical director for two parishes in the Owensboro Diocese, and have an extensive background in Roman Catholic hymnals. I have taught many students but am ready to teach here in the Louisville area!
I started teaching towards the beginning of high school, primarily with my younger family members and the occasional churchgoer. I also began teaching adults when I started college, which was just as enjoyable. I primarily have traveled to my students' homes, but am more than happy to do online if needed! I believe I still have a lot to learn myself since I am constantly learning new things! I am passionate about making the experience fun and exciting because that is what music is to me! The more fun it is, the easier it is to practice and get experience!
I generally first start with finding out what my student is interested in. I have primarily used Alfred's Basic Piano Library with my younger students but am open to suggestions. I base my selection of each individual student, as long as the core fundamentals are used. I do enjoy the interactive workbooks for younger students, as I've seen repetition has a major effect. Writing out the information does help, even if it isn't written on the music itself. The books I used previously had a song to play, and a worksheet to go along with it as you learned each measure.
I enjoy teaching because I love sharing my talent. I love watching others learn about their quirks and what they are best at, and my job is to help them find that quirk and use it! I do set realistic goals for my students, but we will work diligently to make sure every part of the material is understood, before continuing. I want my student to feel confident in their self before they move on. I am absolutely fine to re-teach a concept as needed, even if it was mentioned weeks before in another lesson!
