I have been training and performing as a vocalist for the last 15 years. Since 2007 I have also been actively working as an educator of young and older students alike. My vocal experience and pedagogy spans a variety of styles including classical, blues, jazz, world, gospel, R&B and musical theater. I have toured throughout the United States, Canada, France and Senegal, West Africa. During this time I have had the privilege of performing alongside several well respected world and jazz musicians such as, les frères guisse, vieux Mcfaye, Mao Otayeck, Christoph Duplan and Pape Boye. I have had the honor of being featured as a lead vocalist on several radio stations such as NPR, World Beat Canada and RMB to name a few. I currently hold a Bachelors Degree in Musical Theatre from the New School University in New York and I have a Masters Degree in Music Education from the Boston Conservatory in Boston MA. I am trained in vocal pedagogy. Over the past several years I have devoted more of my time to teaching, my other great passion. I am most fond of teaching private and group voice lesson, but am also well versed in musical theatre and chorus.
Since 2007 I have had the pleasure of teaching several private students some of which have had great success as vocalists in the entertainment world. I encourage my students to find their voice while reminding them to practice regularly. I find that although it is important to have a good grasp of classical training it is just as important to train in the style that will suit the student best. It is equally important that the student has fun. I enjoy getting to know my students and motivating them to work towards their goals whatever they may be. I am currently accepting new students in the NYC area.
With beginner level students I typically start with the basics and work towards a solo repertoire. For adults, I guide the lessons based on the individuals goals and needs.In both cases, it is imperative to me that we can agree upon the repertoire and that the student is learning the skills they need while having fun and feeling confident about their progress.
I love to foster a passion for music. I move at the students pace. During the lessons we set realistic goals. Students are encouraged to learn how to self correct.I have been told that I am patient and fair.
