With a BM in Jazz Saxophone Performance from the Eastman School of Music, I am an active performer and educator in the New York area. While I continue to pursue my MM degree from the Manhattan School of Music, I work with Grammy Award winning artists and ensembles, such as Ryan Truesdell's Gil Evans Project and Trio Globo, and perform frequently with jazz, rock, funk, and pop groups of my own and of my peers. Most recently, I completed a five-month European tour of Grease the Musical. I am a bandleader, performer, composer, and ardent advocate for furthering the state of music and music education.
As a music educator in private lessons and classroom environments, I successfully help my students become better musicians, not only adding to their ability to perform, but also deepening the theoretical and historical understanding of their instrument. I work with children of all ages with all levels of ability to develop self-discipline and inspiration to reach new heights in harnessing their craft. In my role on the teaching staff at the Jacksonville (FL Community Music School, I worked to bring inspiring educational experiences to elementary and middle school age music students. I have worked with second through fifth graders in difference classroom environments, introducing children to jazz music and leading sectionals for groups of flute, clarinet, and saxophone students. Additionally, I have maintained a private studio of woodwind and piano students for the last eight years.
My creative apporach to teaching is shaped by the interests of each individual student, finding a personalized strategy to make learning fun! I work together with my students and their families to establish mutual goals and we acheive them through learning techniques that keep students engaged, interested, and motivated. I offer a well-rounded experience that establishes strong fundimentals in techinique and quality of sound production. To develop technical proficiency and an understanding of lyrical phrasing, I have intermediate and advanced woodwind students work out of the Klose, Ferling, and Rose etude books. Upon this foundation, we are able to explore a wide variety of repertoire, improvisation, song writing, and other areas of interest to the student. I am always eager to teach, learn, and make music with students of any age within any genre!
I am passionate about inspiring love for music in my students, and creating a supportive private lesson experience from which students find enjoyment and the motivation to develop their talents. Lesson plans are tailored to the interests of each individual student, so that their musical progress is a fun process that the student is enthusiastic about. I provide a friendly, encouraging atmosphere paired with expectations to reach realistic goals we set together.
Great teacher, always on time and very sweet and patient with my 10 year old.
