I was a child prodigy, able to play piano when I was 5 years. I began formal lessons when I was ten, and quickly progressed. I gave numerous recitals as a student. I received music scholarships to high school and college. I have had a lot of teaching experience in public and private schools. I am always well prepared, and patient with my students. They are happy to be learning with me and enjoy their lessons. Using my methods and my one on one personal touch, my students progress rapidly and like bringing music into their lives. ( I enjoy students of all ages, and have a special interest in adult students ).
Over 30 years of private and public/private teaching experience. I love to teach. In my lessons, I get to know each student personally, learn their strengths and weaknesses and proceed from there. Each student is unique and learns at a different pace. It is important for a teacher to know this and to work on technique, pieces, and recital planning to best showcase each individual. My methods have always been successful, and taking a student from point A to point B, C, D and beyond is so rewarding in my work.
For young children, I start with the use of their 10 fingers. We do finger exercises using Middle C as the center and exercise the fingers in up and down playing at the piano. I use the Faber method of study which is fantastic, is graded, introduces all kinds of pieces and a lot of theory. It is a very interesting course and my students do very well using it. I spend a lot of time each week planning individual lessons. Each lesson is complete and introduces new pieces, theory and finger strengthening exercises.
I am happiest when I see my students learn to love their lessons and to enjoy practicing. I make sure that they have numerous opportunities to perform for others. Even with very young children, we begin to write notes, and learn time signatures and key signatures. In one lesson, my young students are able to "read" notes and to play pieces. I have the ability to assess their individual personalities immediately. I am able to engage them and excite them about their lessons. Their parents continually tell me that they "can't wait until the next lesson".
