I am a very passionate, motivated, and encouraging instructor who loves working with students and sharing my love for music. In 2008, I graduated with a Master's of Music in Vocal Performance from Arkansas State University. While there I performed in the Concert Choir, Chamber Choir, and Women's Choir. I was the soprano soloist of the Mozart's Coronation Mass and Mozart's Regina Coeli. I also performed the roles of "Ludmilla" in the Bartered Bride, "Ciesca" in Gianni Schicchi, "Abess" in Suor Angelica, and "Rosalinde" in Die Fledermaus. I also have sung the role of the "Mother Superior" in Sound of Music.
My teaching experience dates back to my college days, as I began teaching private lessons part time 5 years ago and I have been consistently teaching students either in my studio or on a college campus for the last 5 years. I focus on proper vocal technique including breath support, mouth position, and standing position. I start each student with an Italian art song, which helps the student with diction, breath support, and vocal line. I am open to suggestions from the student on what he or she would like to sing. I want the student to enjoy what he or she sings or I am not doing my job properly. I encourage each and every student to do his or her best. My students are encouraged to enter competitions like NATS, this will look great on his or her resume for college.
For beginning students, I start out with an Italian art song out of the the 24 Italian art song book. This helps with diction, breath support, and vocal line. Once the student has progressed, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire and let the student choose a couple of songs that he or she would like to sing. For adults, I also start out with an Italian art song, but also find out what the student is interested in and guide my instruction to keep the lessons engaging, encouraging, and fun no matter their ability level.
Ever since I was little I have wanted to teach. I want to be able to encourage students to reach their goals what ever they may be. It is important that my students progress at their own pace. I try and find out what inspires the student and use that as fuel to help them reach their goals.
