I am a pianist and harpist with a bachelor's degree in music. I have been teaching privately for the past 5-10 years. I also can teach improvisationally along with music theory. I perform in NJ often on the harp and I was a church organist also for 10 years in the past.
Right now because of the coronavirus I would like to teach students on line via facetime. It is new to me, but I think it can work! My schedule is very flexible right now. I can teach all levels of piano and harp along with music theory.Piano: I have played piano since I was 7 . I have been teaching piano privately for the past 5-10 years in my home or in a studio. I encourage students to learn to read music well and also learn about the composer and the musical intentions behind each piece. Harp: I have played harp since I was 18 and perform regularly. I have taught privately for the past 5-10 years and I can teach various techniques and repetiore that I have learned over the years. I also believe and want to pass on love and respect for the instrument.
For beginners: learning to read music and count rhythms is essential. For intermediates: hand technique, musicianship, style of composer, learning your own personal strengths and weaknesses is an ingrediant to success For advanced: learning to stay focused, having stamina, how to memorize difficult passages, understanding complex rhythm patterns, learning about the intentions of the composer is a key to mastering a piece For improvisational players: music theory, musical genre and style, learning rhythmical patterns is a good focus
I try to find out what my student's goals are and try to arrange lesson plans that will work steadily towards their goals. I try to give them knowledge about interesting facts and tips each week of something that they may not consider. For younger students I try to show them how to practice so that they can prepare themselves appropriately each week. Also I encourage students to use a metronome.
I try to emphasize becoming adept at note reading. I feel that this is very important to learning to play. I also teach basic music theory along with different songs including chords, harmony, and scales.Great job, patient and easy to work with.
My son has been taking several lessons with Patty and he’s enjoying wishing with her. Patty is professional and attentive, and she listens to my son’s thoughts and works with him to improve his technique while keeping him interested.
