I'm encouraging and enthusiastic when it comes to teaching and sharing my love of music as an instructor for guitar, piano, and voice. I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Industry from Chadron State College with the guitar being my principal instrument, however, focused on voice and piano as part of my degree too. I've been a professional guitarist for over 10 years and have played in performing and touring bands ranging from blues, rock, pop, country, jazz, and more. I've been teaching guitar and music lessons for over 7 years.
I've had the experience and privilege of teaching students ranging from 5 years olds to adults in their 60's during the past 7 years. The core philosophy of teaching music lessons for me is that inspiration and motivation in a music lesson come from finding enjoyment and reward from the learning process. I've worked with students to develop better sight-reading skills, performance etiquette, improvisation, recording techniques, proper form, and posture, and marketing strategies, to help get your music heard when you feel ready and proud enough to share it with others.
For beginning students, I use materials such as Beginners Method books, Hal Leonard books, Jody Fischer books, and popular songbooks. I'm make sure to include ways to properly develop your ability to utilize music theory training from an early stage. Throughout lessons and into the skill level of moderate to intermediate, I'll use sound clips as examples to fully ensure that you as the student are grasping the concepts and can hear how to improve and approach creating musical notes using the tools that exist. For advanced players, I'm sure to help accommodate a more refined performance set-list, songwriting strategies, provide help creating your own image and brand as a musician, and build a better following on social media.
I'm a very open and positive teacher who's quick to validate your learning achievements whether you're a fast and intuitive learner, or a bit more introverted and contemplative. I'm a firm believer in encouraging and uplifting others when I'm given the opportunity to create a lasting and positive impact through teaching music. When you feel like the material that's being taught clicks, you see how the direction of your learning goals begin to fully take shape, and you're achieving the most out of your learning style, the opportunities that can arise will amaze you. I hope to guide individual success during my lessons since it's a wonderful motivator when you can see all that there is to achieve. When you've practiced and gotten enough material together, I'll help to facilitate ways you can share your accomplishments, whether it's at a recital, for music competitions, open mic nights, or in the recording studio!
Patrick has been one of my most skilled musuc teachers in my life. What I especially enjoyed was his thorough knowledge of music theoy. What was so helpful was the way he helped me stretch musically and technically. So often I was amazed at little hints that opened a whole new set of abilities. Patrick is a great teacher.
