I have been studying music since I was a little child. I am an active performing artist who has toured all over the world since the age of fifteen. Although I enjoy performing, teaching is what drives me. I learn a lot from each and every student. I just wish to share the knowledge I've acquired with each and every student. I want to see students succeed in music and enjoy every minute of it.
I have been teaching since 2002. My first teaching job was at a small private school. I then moved on to teach six years at public high schools in Texas, and then I moved on to teaching at the University level. Throughout that time I have always had a private studio as well. Many of my students have gone on to be very successful in music. Having successful students motivates me to always teach great lessons.
For my piano students, I teach them on a keyboard to get them familiarized with the layout of the piano. I teach proper fingerings, scales, and most importantly music theory. For my flute, clarinet, and saxophone students I work out of appropriate etude books for their performance level. I also teach jazz improvisation. I keep my students engaged and learning is always fun. I want each student to leave each lesson with a sense of learning something great!
I set realistic goals for each student, and I encourage each student to practice to meet their goals each week. I also make myself available to all students at anytime for questions during their practice. I have a system of teaching jazz improvisation that ensures that every student can play and read changes. I take all of the bad habits away from each student to promote healthy performing habits.
