I am an enthusiastic drummer of 10 years who has recently learned how to play the guitar, bass, piano, and how to sing. I have played both drum set and percussion in a variety of formats including: wind ensemble, jazz band, African drumming ensemble, marching band, and in my personal rock band. I enjoy playing and recording music on my own and collaboratively. I have played out with my rock band at various venues in Massachusetts including The Palladium and The All Asia.
I am new to the teaching aspect of music, however, I will be attending UMass Amherst in the Fall to get my Teacher's License. I am interested in private lessons because it offers a more personal one-on-one experience in which I can shape the curriculum specifically to the student's needs and desires.
I believe that every student should learn how to read sheet music for his/her particular instrument. I think that learning basic rudiments and basic beats of various styles is beneficial to the student. That being said, I think that the lesson should be based on the student's goals.
I really look forward to starting my teaching career with private lessons. I believe that it is necessary to really listen and communicate with the student about his/her goals and the techniques/exercises that I utilize to help them achieve their goals. In private lessons I think that each student requires a individualized practice scheme, pace, and form of encouragement to achieve his/her goals.
