Hello, I began teaching professionally 9 years ago in my home studio. I first started with guitar lessons. I am very passionate about aiding and supporting the growth of students. I provide students with the skills needed for the complete understanding of the language of music. This equips the student to learn any kind of music that is desired. Students are then able to learn classical, jazz, blues, rock, and popular music. I have hosted open mic talent shows for students to show off their skills! I am always looking to teach students of all ages!
For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Piano or Guitar Lessons for the Young Beginner by Andrew Scott and Gary Turner. The student, even at a young age, learns an introduction to music theory. Each concept is taught in a very methodical and step-by-step approach. As a teacher, I am looking to prepare students for ongoing learning for years to come. The language of music can be very confusing and I am looking for ways to minimize those perplexing times. This is where I take the time to understend the student's own learning style.
For me seeing one of my students develop a passion for music is such areward! It is very important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I am constantly encouraging students to practice as slow as they need to. This eables students to have realistic goals each week that can be attained. It is important to take the time to acknowledge students and their accomplishments. This helps keep the learning fun and energetic. Students will continue to have a desire to progress. Another thing that I do is asking studenst what they would like to learn. This keeps them engaged in the journey and empowers them to have a voice in their own learning!
I've been taking guitar lessons from Paul for two years now. He's an excellent teacher. He teaches me through book lessons as well as using real world examples of different styles of music, and famous guitarists, which make his lessons very interesting and engaging. He focuses on details like proper hand positions and finger positioning for quality sound. Paul has taught me the best and most productive ways to practice for my progression. He is patient, and at the same time is gently demanding that the student take responsibility for their own growth through consistent practice. He has also taught me how to care for my guitars by teaching me how to change the strings and the proper way to clean and maintain my guitars which helps the instrument's life and its sound quality. Paul has helped me grow so much in these past two years as a musician. I would highly recommend hiring Paul as your teacher.
