I am a hard working guitar performer/teacher. I have been performing since the age of 8 for churches, weddings, concert halls, and competitions. I have been a national competition finalist two times and have been recognized many times for my performances and hard work at FSU. I plan on graduating in the spring of 2020 and pursuing my masters degree in classical guitar performance. I also am well rounded in other genres such as rock and pop. I began teaching at the age of 16 and have taught all ages ranging from 7 to 50.
My teaching experience began at the age of 16. I have fell in love with the art of teaching and the connections I have made doing so. There have been many teachers in my life that have opened the musical door for me and have made a difference in my life. I want to be that person for aspiring musicians everywhere from all backgrounds. The reward I get from seeing a student accomplish something on the guitar is enough to make my life complete. I want the best for all my students and give them all the tools necessary in order to be successful.
For students who are children I start with methods such as Hal Leonard to accommodate for their smaller hands. After the student is comfortable with the guitar we will move on to more challenging solo pieces and branch off into which genre they are interested in. For teenage and adult students I begin teaching the basic fundamentals for the guitar and move on to what ever genre the student wishes to learn. I start all of my students off with the basic technique of the guitar so that they have a strong background in the guitar and have a better understanding of music before we move into the specific genres.
My teaching style is the same for all of my students. We all learn at our own pace, it is important as a teacher to understand this and not push the student or give too much to work on in one lesson. The students skill grow stronger at a gradual and comfortable pace. Even if it is learning one scale a week that is progress! Nothing satisfies me more as a teacher to see my students moving forward with the instrument no matter how small the progress. I am a firm believer in the "learning at our own pace" method for the best results.
