Bachelor Degree: Berklee College of Music
I am a lifelong musician, producer and passionate educator. Hailing from Cleveland, Ohio, my musical background is rich and diverse and spans many genres. Though my strong suits lie in jazz and gospel, i am well versed in an array of contemporary musical styles (rock, metal, R&B, reggae etc.) . His broad musical experience allows him to appeal to students with an interest in exploring various musical styles. Throughout my musical career I have played with notable acts such as Dominick Farinacci, Elijah Gilmore and Gerald LaVert. I have a Bachelor or Arts degree from Berklee College of Music with concentrations in performance and music production.
I have been teaching music for over 7 years. I started in high school offering private instruction to families in my neighborhood. I quickly became a main source of music education in my area, and developed methods that were highly effective with younger students. During my time at Berklee College of Music, i studied music pedagogy and started developing formal lesson plans, while taking on many students of different ages (6-60). I have experience teaching most genres of music. I have helped my students prepare for recitals, auditions, and competitions, but also work to create an environment where the student can learn just for the love of music. I love to find out what makes people interested in music in order to best feed their passions.
Before instructing a student, i like to find out their reason for starting and overall musical goals. I will then assess which methods will be most effective for each individual student. Sometimes this looks like working out of a book, sometimes it looks like just playing music together and sharing ideas. In general, my goal with all my students is to help them develop a deep personal relationship with music. This happens differently for everyone. I believe the most important aspect in teaching music is to communicate universal concepts with language that suits the individual. From a playing standpoint, i think it is important that each student is studying what they find interesting in order to keep them excited and looking forward to lessons and practice. I do my best to cater to the individual and nurture their growing interest in music
My teaching style is generally laid back. I believe that a student will only work as hard as they want to, and I have little control over that. I focus more on finding out what will make the student want to work hard, rather than forcing them to study something that does not interest them. It's all about getting the student to have a positive musical experience. That being said, I do my best to hold my students accountable, but try to do so in an encouraging way vs. a nagging and controlling way. I want my students to get their moneys worth, so I prioritize creating an enjoyable yet productive experience based on growth through music.
