I absolutely enjoy teaching others and look forward to working with individuals as they progress into the world of music. I started out in the business world at IUSB and minored in psychology. This led me start taking Art and became a painting major from 1995-1998. In 1999 I moved to Indianapolis and took my painting and art seriously. Here I met some very serious musicians and learned power chords on electric guitar. That would open up several opportunities to play with serious musicians. As I had several solo art shows in the downtown area: my skills on guitar were on their way to advanced levels.
I have been playing since 1998 and have been in several bands from Indianapolis to here in the Michiana area. I am self taught on guitar and piano and play the cello, harmonica and mandolin but have extensive experience on the guitar. Around 2009 I started teaching a few students guitar in the Elkhart Indiana area and with my work schedule had to stop. Since then I have been in several local band projects including a group called Megarush. We just released a 7 song all original concept album last summer with internet play around the world . I play bass guitar in this project. I am in another group called " Worth the Cover Charge" this is a cover band that plays mostly 70's style rock music. I play lead guitar/ harmonica and vocals in this project.
My methods are originated from the classical style of "no pick" and proper posture to various rock methods on electric to finger style accoustic. I would start my lesson with an in depth description of the guitar itself and how to tune and then enter the notes and with foot tapping rhythms. I am praised on my patience and understanding with individuals. I find out what the student is comfortable with whether it be reading tablature or visual hands on. One of the introductory lessons to beginning students will focus on the strings and notes and build up the finger and shape dexterity.
I am so pleased when a student understands and excels at something and when they have creative methods of memorization. All people are different when it comes to learning so the beginning lessons are to find out what style is detrimental to this person and how we will execute a lesson plan. Once the lesson plan is laid out and the groundwork is set we will get to work and the student will be left with something tangible to look at for the next time we get together. Realistic homework so they don't get too stressed out!
