I'm a passionate and motivated instructor who loves working with students and sharing my love of music. In 2007, I graduated from the University of Central Arkansas with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Piano/Trombone Performance. Performing all over the world has been one of the greater experiences of my life as a musician, and I've had the opportunity to play in Hollywood on American Idol, Hong Kong, Costa Rica, United Kingdom, Bahamas, Puerto Rico with the former lead singer from Journey, and many other places around the United States.
I started teaching piano and drums in church around the age of 18. Once I got to college, I picked up trombone, piano and singing lessons for various students aging from 4 years old-22 years old. I realized that teaching, part time, was a passion of mine and greatly became something that I focused my efforts on full time. Now, as a professional musician, I take pride in helping others achieve their music dreams. It takes time, commitment, and courage to step into a new territory. I salute anyone who is willing to learn a new instrument or better understand their vocal capabilities. Music is everything...let's do this!
For beginning students, it is absolutely essential to learn the basics. As each student grows and has fully grasped a better understanding of the fundamentals, the I begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. I have learned that every learner is different, so each person's lesson has to cater to their learning style.
Nothing is more rewarding that seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a student's desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs. At the end of the day, I want each student to feel encouraged to practice but also feel like they are having fun while learning. The gift of music is the ultimate reward!
