I have been playing the guitar for well over 30 years performing and touring extensively throughout all years. I am a founding member of Triada Guitar Trio and Four of a Kind Guitar Quartet. With these groups, I have performed at well over 800 concerts throughout Europe and the United States. I have played guitar concertos with prominent Symphony Orchestras such as the Pacific Symphony Orchestra, South Coast Symphony, and Huntington Symphony of West Virginia. I have performed at some of the most prestigious concert series in the United States along with Grammy winners and many world-renowned guitarists. Prominent guitar composers such as Roland Dyens, Maximo Diego-Pujol, and Rossen Balkanski have written large-scale compositions for Triada. I have experience working with students with diverse academic, socioeconomic, and cultural backgrounds, including students with disabilities.
I have been playing guitar professionally for over 30 years, and teaching multiple music disciplines since 2005. I have a Master‘s Degree in Music Performance from California State University, Fullerton. I have taught the following courses in public and charter Elementary, Middle, and High Schools: Applied Guitar, Guitar Orchestra, Chamber Ensembles, Advanced Guitar Techniques, Guitar Collaboration, Guitar Arranging, Music Theory, Sight Reading, and Ear Training. I have also taught Beginning Piano and Ukulele. From 2009 until 2016 I was on the faculty of the prestigious Orange County School of the Arts in Santa Ana. I also co-owned and managed the Green Room Arts music studio, where I recruited, prepared, and led several middle and high school student guitar orchestras on national and international tours and competitions. In 2017, under my direction, The Green Room Arts Youth Guitar Ensemble won 3rd place in the Large Ensemble division at the prestigious Guitar Foundation of America International Ensemble Competition.
All lessons are customized to meet the individual needs and interests of each and every student. Instruction is open to everyone with a love for music and a desire to learn, regardless of age or previous musical experience. I teach fingerstyle playing on nylon and steel-string acoustic guitar. In addition, I teach beginning piano and ukulele. I don't use one specific method book. Over the years, I have developed my own method that I then tailor to each student, depending on their objectives and goals.
I am very fortunate to have worked with great teachers, who not only inspired me to play the guitar at a very high level but also to desire to pass on that knowledge to my students. I am very passionate about working with all my students. I strive to make every student comfortable, but gently nudge them to become the best musician they possibly can. I encourage students to get ready and perform on stage and in front of an audience as soon as possible. Playing a musical instrument should not be a goal but a journey, and I am very happy to be part of that journey together with all students.
