3 years at The Dallas School of Music in Dallas, TX
4 years in the music program at JMU (James Madison University) in Harrisonburg, VA
I studied piano at the Dallas, Texas School of Music. I have played piano for 20 years and guitar for 15. I also attended the James Madison University music program. After college, I moved to San Diego and founded the band Inside Switch. We have released 2 albums to date. We played shows in San Diego, Hollywood, Las Vegas, Redondo Beach, Virginia Beach, and Hollywood.
I also founded Exodeye Studios. Exodeye Studios is a vertically integrated music label. Students are developed, booked, and recorded through Exodeye to give them exposure and comprehension of the music industry.
Exodeye records demos for its promising students and continues to develop them as artists as they learn to perform and evolve into professional musicians and composers.
I look forward to helping others acquire the creativity and confidence that can come from music.
I have written, performed, recorded, and produced two studio albums with the band, Inside Switch, that have gone on to sell thousands of copies internationally. Both are available for purchase from Amazon & iTunes and our available for free from Bandcamp.
I have also performed at the following landmark venues:
-The House of Blues (San Diego, CA & Orlando, FL)
-The Roxy Theater (Hollywood)
-The Key Club (Hollywood)
-The Brixton (Redondo Beach, CA)
-The Oceanview Club (Virginia Beach, VA)
I understand it's easy to lose drive when you're constantly drilling scales and fingering. I try to frame all of my lessons in reference to what music really is: the creation of songs. Through composition, my students won't just learn scale and chord structure, but they'll organically develop these skills while writing their own songs and building their personal portfolio.
Beginning with chord progressions and harmonies, then moving into melodies and filling up the sonic landscape of the piece. If the student feels comfortable enough to sing, then adding all the pieces to the puzzle until we have something personal and special to the student.
My teaching style is really based on the individual student. The most important aspect of developing mastery of anything is enjoying what you're doing and different people enjoy different styles of teaching. I tailor my tactics to the student while providing pragmatic and innovative direction for development.
I prefer to use the song as the template for development. As discussed before, drilling scales, chords, and cadences can become tedious and boring for students. This is an important issue to avoid to keep the student truly enjoying what they're learning and further encourages practice.
