Overview:
Hi everyone!! I'm a musician, drummer, and drum instructor with over 56 years experience. I look forward to working with all my new students through this platform. It's an honor and a privilege to be listed here and part of this group of talented musicians and instructors. As a drummer, I've been influenced by many and taught by the pros. One of my most memorable instructors was the late great Charles (Charlie) Perry, author of many indispensable drum books including the Art of Modern Jazz Drumming, Rockin' Bass Drum Books 1 & 2, Drum Solos in Triplets, Introduction to the Drum Set, and 8 Men in Search of a Drummer. Charlie was, and still is, a major influence to me as a drummer and he has inspired me to become a great player and instructor. My musical influences span all musical genres including, but not limited to, Jazz, Swing, Jazz Fusion, Rhythm & Blues, Rock n Roll, Prog Rock, Country, Gospel, Afro Cuban, Latin, and World Music. But the drummers who have influenced me most are perhaps as eclectic as the influences that make up my musical DNA. They include Buddy Rich, Art Blakey, Edison Machado, Ginger Baker, Bernard Purdie, Billy Cobham, Dr. Steve Gadd, Russell Kunkle, Mike Craney, Lenny White, Ricky Dawson, Paul Wertico, Antonio Sanchez, Alex Acuna, Alphonse Mouzon, Peter Erskine, Tito Puente, Mitch Mitchell, and Dave Weckl. I am professionally endorsed by HingeStix, a practice drumstick developed by Sam Ruttenberg, a professional percussionist, drummer, drum instructor, and drumstick manufacturer. I use the HingeStix practice drumstick to help students learn the proper feel of the loose grip while mastering the bounce and rebound. This practice drumstick shaves months and perhaps years off of mastering these techniques and it is an indispensable teaching tool during our lessons. I am a member of the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) Foundation's "Support Music Coalition", a network of non-profit organizations, schools, businesses, and individuals working hard to keep music education strong. I am also a member of the Sabian Education Network, an organization of international educators, and an instructor through the D'Addario Education Collective.
EXPERIENCE
I have always taught in one form or another over the past 56 years, but spent the last 15 years honing my teaching skills and working with as many students at every level to ensure that what and how I teach is easily translated into plain language for the students. I've played drums and percussion in bands across many genres including Jazz, Rock, Soul, R & B, and Country. But I love to teach, which I do privately out of my home studio in Northern Westchester County, NY, as well as one-on-one lessons in your home. My studio boasts a 4-piece Slingerland drum set, a 5-piece DW-PDP drum set, a 5-piece Roland electronic kit, practice snare drums, multiple practice pads, more drumsticks than I can count, instructional materials, books, and handouts. Depending on the age and level of the student, I introduce students to music production, recording, mixing, and editing, so that we may record and critique our playing, which is invaluable to improving one's overall skills.
METHODS USED
I take each student on a musical journey that will motivate and encourage them as a drummer. I teach all students the basics and guide them towards the proper way to practice between lessons, which are the building blocks to growing and improving as a musician and as a drummer. My approach towards teaching and instruction is structured and organic. Students learn the basics and improve through progressive learning but it's the methods and techniques that I employ that ensures every student learns correctly and at their own pace. No lesson is complete until the student has a solid understanding of the concepts discussed and demonstrated. "No pressure" is my mantra! Students will learn music theory, how to read musical notation for the snare drum and the drum set. I teach how to control of the drumsticks, starting with the loose grip and mastering the bounce and rebound. Understanding and mastering these 3 elements will set students on the right course for success. I teach 4-way independence (this means all 4 limbs) so students can move freely around the drum set. With this independence, students are able to play any style of music including Rock, Blues, Gospel, Latin, Jazz, Hip Hop, Electronic, and World. I incorporate a remarkable practice drumstick known as the HingeStix into the lesson plan that builds muscle memory to master the loose grip, the bounce, and the rebound. The HingeStix, coupled with traditional drumsticks, help students accel very rapidly. With patience, perseverance, and dedication students will become a great drummer and I’m here to take them on their journey.
LESSON STYLE
Every drum student receives personalized drum lessons designed to motivate, excite, challenge, and move the drum student at a steady and comfortable pace. No drum lesson is complete until the student has a full understanding of the concepts discussed and exercises assigned. Whether the student is a beginner, intermediate, advanced I will tailor the drum lessons to meet the student's goals and aspirations. Some student may want to learn rock beats to jam with their friends or to ultimately play professionally as a drummer, I can help show the way. The rest is up to the student. The 80/20 rule applies here. 20% is up to the teacher, 80% is up to the student. Lessons are fun and informative. I not only teach how to play the instrument but I teach how to practice correctly. My students know they can contact me anytime with questions via phone, text, or email. I have a lot invested in each and every student and I want everyone to know it.

Peter is an excellent drummer and a great drum teacher. I started as a beginner, and I am amazed at how quickly I have advanced. Peter’s teaching methods and techniques keep me engaged and learning all the time. I didn’t expect to be playing on the drum set during my second lesson, but there I was learning to play a rock beat. He continues to keep me challenged, engaged, and always learning. I highly recommend Peter as a drum teacher.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
