Overview:
Hi! I'm a dedicated drummer and passionate instructor who loves embarking, with my students, into the endless possibility of rhythm. I've been living in Austin for 8 years and have played with many bands, all over town. In the meantime, I have had the opportunity to enjoy giving hundreds of lessons to all levels of students. In 2006, I graduated from Berklee College of Music with a Bachelor's Degree in Jazz Composition. I grew up in Greenfield, MA, where I attended High School and I spent as much time as possible, in the school's band room!
EXPERIENCE
I have been teaching part-time for the last 10 years, from my home studio, at music stores, and traveling to students homes. Cultivating a fun and engaging lesson environment is crucial to keeping my younger students active and interested in their musical studies. Also, setting goals and maintaining a regular practice routine are both paramount to every student's consistent development. I host periodic recitals, so that my students a performance experience and show off their new talents. Drumming is amazing, and I want to share this miracle with as many souls as possible!
METHODS USED
Overtime my method has become to identify the root of my student's musical passion. From there, I come up with customized exercises and lesson plans that allow my students to branch out and find new sources of inspiration. These new inspirations naturally become the basis for further, and further discoveries! With that in mind, I tend to shape lessons into three focused mini-sessions. First, we warm up by review some previous material. Then, we establish a challenging new assignment. Finally, we open up the format of the lesson and get creative, play games, or just jam (with our current studies in mind).
LESSON STYLE
I believe am gifted at finding a good balance, between discipline and chaos, during my lessons. Just enough regimented order, mixed in with relaxed spontaneity. For my younger students, I am teacher that is demands respect and encourages smiles, at the same time. With my adult students, I hold them accountable, without coming off The Boss! This dichotomy also balances types of curriculum we my cover. There will be some written music, some played by ear. Foundational traditions and new progressive explorations!

Pete is a great teacher! He explains things thoroughly and plays a piece of music for you to help give you an idea of what it should sound like. Not only does he help me with the drums but he also helps me with marimba pieces that I have for my band class.
