I was born in the Ukraine. I received a degree from the Conservatory of music of Lviv in the Ukraine, where studied trombone. I was performed in Symphonic Band, Brass Ensemble, and the Philharmonic Orchestra. I was previously a band director and music educator in the Ukraine.
I’m performing in several local Big Bands as Bass Trombone player-The Jazz Loft Big Band,
The New Millennium Big Band,Most Dangerous Big Band,Swing Time Band,Black Tie Affair Orchestra,Leon Petruzzi Big Band,Long Island Sound Swing Band.Petro has performed with the Dowling College Orchestra and the Pit Orchestras of James Street Players,Gateway Theater Playhouse and Creative Ministries Theater,West Islip Symphony,The Rockway/Five Towns Symphony,Long Island based Orchestras.
EXPERIENCE
My teaching experience is really varied. I teach kids that are beginners, advanced classic/jazz masterclasses and everything in between. I personally love this variety because it gives the possibility to experiment different methods and being open to students feedback so I can build the best lessons for them. My experience give the possibility to change my style and also I can draw for a large amount of musical materials to practice with each student. I also believe that having fun is one of the basic elements of learning. So the lessons will be fun but efficient!!
METHODS USED
For beginning students, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. Once the student has a grasp on the fundamentals of performance, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital or NYSSMA solo. After the student moves on from basic method books, I introduce more trombone-specific books such as Arban's Trombone Method Book,and Rochut's Melodious Etudes for trombone. For adults, I like to find out what kind of music they want to play and plan my lesson accordingly to skill level.
LESSON STYLE
For a young child to love music, a teacher must introduce it to him or her in a passionate way, without forcing it one the child. The struggling student is just as capable of loving music, just as much as the accomplished one. As I mentioned earlier, all students learn at different paces, so I teach each student as close as humanly possible to their level. It is not important for a child to play like a professional musician, but to play like the student has put his or her heart into learning the music. This is what I love above about teaching music.
