I am an experienced instrumental music teacher. I have a B.A. and an M.A. in Music Education from the Manhattan School of Music. I have worked as a professional musician and have been teaching music for many years. I played and worked in Tehran, Iran early in my career. I use the software "Finale" to create music for various uses. At my lessons I accompany my students on the piano. I have the ability to teach flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone and drums. I believe that playing music is a joy.
After graduating from college I joined the Peace Corps. I spent 2 years in Tehran, Iran playing in the Tehran Symphony Orchestra. I returned to the U.S. and went back to school to get my Masters degree. I worked as a music teacher in the Bronx, N.Y. for several years. After that I worked at an electronic music studio in Hawthorne, N.Y. The studio eventually shut down and I began teaching Band at the Stamford Public Schools where I taught music at the elementary, middle and high school levels.
I have created my own method of teaching which I have perfected over the years. I create my own exercises and practice materials based on the level and interests of each individual student. I use the software program "Finale" in order to create the musical compositions that I prepare for my students. I always accompany my students on the piano. I am well versed in the various styles of music and am comfortable teaching students how to improvise also.
I have a tremendous love of music. Music has greatly enhanced my life. I try to share this love of music with my students. I have a love of teaching. I try to share my musical knowledge with my students. I attempt to find the way to inspire students to find their way to pursue their musical studies.
I like working with Phil. He is very experienced and knowledgeable and patient. He brings a keyboard to each session to accompany me and I think that is above and beyond what I'd expect from most teachers.
