My private instructor, was Mr. Charles Hanes , a U.C.L.A. graduate with a Masters Degree in music education. His thesis called 'The Joys of Improvisation, of the spring of 1979', uniquely combined Tai Chi and Yoga, to develop circular breathing, discipline and control in all three dimensions of speed for classical as well as jazz.. He inspired me to become the musician I am today..
My first love is playing for the love of music, second, to teach, even more than performing, all ages..Beginners, we first make sure they're not tone deaf. Advance, like with any good indtructor, we listen and watch for and handicaps, or limitations, formulate a plan, and bridge the gap and take them further faster ...
Taught and performed for for 30 years... But seeing and hearing is believing, I've posted a video of me playing a jazz demonstration of a Hubert Laws composition.. This was part of my therapy after open heart surgery and a mini stroke.. Some doctors believe as a musician the use of both sides of my brain may have contributed to a speedy recovery..I believe my 7th cranial nerve damage, completely paralyzing the left side of my face, was healed by the Grace of God, first, and the gift He gave me called Music.
Similar to The Suzuki Method.. I take the concept further enabling the student to conceptualize and visualize music utilizing Einstein's 'The Fabric of Space and Time'.. Materializing music from the invisible to the visible, in ones mind as well as on paper, bringing music full circle, or 360* degrees..Example: a rain bow has a definitive structure of 7 colors, 7 days in a week etc. 12 months in a year 12 weeks in a season.. These structures are reflective in music 7 letters and 12 keys..3 months to a season 3 notes to a major chord. Winter is the opposite of summer as augmented is to diminished etc. 12 x 30=360 full circle etc.
My style of lesson is like water.. No two students are alike. I must first test a beginner to see if they're tone deaf.. An advanced student is tested for any limitations or handicaps. Any good coach would study the student for any weakness, and formulate a viable plan to bridge the gap again to take them further faster.. Example: I have an 11 year old student that reads the pink panther very well, but has no clue what key he's in, or how to transpose etc. Any English reading student can also read in Spanish, but has no clue what they're saying, unless they speak Spanish, and visa versa.. So when the advance student is ready for, say f the whole tone scale, I combine this exercise with the augmented chord etc..
